Baker is a teaching assistant you text. To help you it needs to remember some things about you and your class. This page says exactly what we keep, why, who helps us run Baker, and how to get it deleted.
Baker is a product of Maziwa LLC (Wyoming, USA), which is responsible for your information. Contact: hello@textbaker.com.
What we keep
- Your details: your mobile number, and the first name and email you give us when you sign up.
- Your messages: what you text Baker and what it texts back, so it can follow the conversation.
- What Baker learns about your class: things like your year group, the curriculum you follow and what's worked well, so you don't have to repeat yourself.
- What Baker makes: the worksheets, stories and other files it creates for you.
- Your plan: whether you're on the free messages or a paid plan, and the Stripe reference for your subscription. Your card details go straight to Stripe; we never see them.
- How you found us: the campaign tags in the link you arrived from (for example which ad). When measuring is on (see Cookies), also the ad-click and cookie IDs Meta and Google use, and the IP address and browser you signed up with (deleted after 30 days). If you came from one of our WhatsApp ads, also which ad it was and the ad-click code WhatsApp gives us (deleted after 30 days).
Please don't send us pupils' personal details
Baker doesn't need to know who your pupils are. Use first names or group labels ("the blue group"), and please don't send surnames, photos, medical or special-needs details. If you do, Baker is told not to repeat or remember them.
Why we use it
- To reply to you and make the resources you ask for.
- To remember your class, so each resource fits better.
- To run your free messages, your plan and cancelling by text.
- To send the occasional check-in (text STOP to turn these off).
- To keep Baker secure and stop abuse.
- To measure which of our ads bring teachers to Baker (you can turn this off any time).
We never sell your information. We look at what teachers ask for and how Baker answered, to make Baker better at it. For ads, we only measure our own, as described below.
Cookies and measuring our ads
We measure our ads from your first visit, as described below, unless you turn it off. Turn it off any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of each page: tap No thanks and we store one small note on your device so measuring stays off.
When measuring is on, Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google (Google Analytics) cookies are set through our own tagging server, run for us by Stape. Then, when you sign up, start texting Baker, reach the end of your free messages, open checkout or first pay, we tell Meta and Google that it happened. If you pay on one of our sales pages before texting Baker, we also keep your ad-click and cookie IDs, IP address and browser from the moment you tap to pay, and use the email and mobile number you give at checkout, so the payment can be matched to the ad. With it we send your email, mobile number, first name and country scrambled (hashed) so they can't be read, plus your ad-click and cookie IDs, IP address and browser. Meta uses this to tell us which ads work and to show our ads to people like our users. We never tell Meta about renewals, refunds or cancellations.
If you tap one of our ads on Facebook or Instagram that opens WhatsApp, WhatsApp gives us a code for that ad click. We keep it for 30 days, and when you start texting Baker, finish your free resource, open checkout or first pay, we send Meta that code and the step (and, for a payment, the amount). Meta uses it to tell us which ads work. We send nothing else about you with it: no name, number, email, IP address or messages. We never tell Meta about renewals, refunds or cancellations.
Our website's "Text Baker now" button adds a short code to the message WhatsApp opens with, like "(ref K7Q2MX)". When you send it, Baker uses the code to link your first text to the ad you came from, as if you had signed up on the website (with the same rules about measuring), then removes it. Baker never sees or keeps the code in your conversation. Unused codes are deleted after 30 days.
If you text Baker without using our website or one of our WhatsApp ads, we tell Meta and Google about those steps with your mobile number and first name scrambled (hashed) as above. If you turned measuring off on our website, we still count those steps in Google Analytics so we know how Baker is doing, but anonymously: without your details, IP address or any cookie ID, and we never tell Meta.
Who helps us run Baker
- Hetzner hosts Baker's servers and database in Germany (EU).
- AI model providers, reached through OpenRouter, turn your messages into replies and resources. We only use providers that don't keep or train on what's sent to them. Some of them are outside the UK and EU, including in the United States.
- Runware (UK) draws the pictures in your resources with Meta's Muse image model. It gets only the written description of each picture, never your number or your messages. Runware keeps its data on servers in the EU.
- Photon (iMessage) and Meta (WhatsApp) carry your texts, depending on how you reach Baker.
- Twilio sends the one-time code when you sign up on our website.
- Stripe takes payments and manages your plan.
- Stape runs our tagging server, which passes the measurements above to Meta and Google.
- Meta and Google measure our ads and website visits, only as described in Cookies and measuring our ads.
Where your information goes outside the UK or EU, we rely on the legal safeguards those providers offer, such as standard contractual clauses.
How long we keep it
We keep your account while you use Baker. If you ask us to delete it, we delete your details, messages, class notes and files. We may keep payment records for as long as tax law requires. Encrypted backups are cleared automatically within about a year.
Your rights
You can ask to see, correct, download or delete your information, or object to how we use it. Email hello@textbaker.com from the address you signed up with, or tell us your number, and we'll reply within a month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled it, you can complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the ICO).
Security
Everything travels over encrypted connections. Our servers only accept the traffic Baker needs, and backups are encrypted. Each teacher's information is kept separate, so Baker only ever uses yours when it's talking to you.
Children
Baker is for adults who teach. It isn't meant for children, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll let you know before it takes effect.
