Sound familiar?

The rule changes every week. The work doesn't.

Sunday, 8:30 pm

Making the list, again

This week is adding -ed. You need ten words that follow the rule, a few that don't, and nothing your class can't read. Then the same again for the group that needs fewer words.

Wednesday, lunch

Practice that isn't just copying

Look, say, cover, write, check works, but writing out the grid by hand for three groups eats your break. So it's the same sheet as last term, with new words squeezed in.

Friday, 8:40 am

The test you haven't written

Friday's test is in twenty minutes. You need the words in a sensible order, a sentence for each, and an answer sheet so the TA can mark.

Baker turns one text about this week's rule into the list, the practice and the test, for every group.

Why it works

A spelling assistant that knows this week's rule.

Tell Baker the rule and your groups once. It writes the week around them and remembers where you are next week.

Lists built around the rule

Doubling the consonant, -tion, silent k, i before e. Baker picks words that show the rule, can add a few tricky words, and pitches them at your year group.

year 3 list for adding -ing, with a couple where you double the letter

Practice sheets they can get on with

Look, say, cover, write, check practice with lines for each word, word sorts, missing letters and sentences to finish. A Name and Date line at the top.

Look, say, cover, write, check on page one, a word sort on page two.

A Friday test with answers

Numbered lines for each word and a sentence for you to read out. The answers sit on the last page, so anyone can mark it.

Ten words, a sentence for each to read aloud, answers on the last page.

A list for every group

Same rule, three lists: fewer and simpler words for one group, a stretch list for another. Baker remembers which group gets what.

same rule but 6 words for the green group and some harder ones for the reds
What you can ask for

Text it like you'd ask the teacher next door.

No forms, no settings. These are the kinds of messages Baker turns into a PDF.

FAQ

Questions teachers ask about spelling.

Will it follow our spelling scheme?

Tell Baker your scheme and this week's rule, and it writes to that. It pitches words at your year group and follows the spelling for your country, so a UK number gets "colour" and a US number gets "color". It isn't linked to or approved by any scheme; it works from what you tell it.

Can it do look, say, cover, write, check?

Yes. Ask for a look, say, cover, write, check sheet and you get this week's words with lines to write each one. Word sorts, missing letters and finish-the-sentence practice work too.

Does the test come with answers?

Yes. The test has numbered lines and a sentence for each word for you to read out. The answers go on the last page.

Can I get different lists for different groups?

Yes. Ask for easier, core and stretch lists for the same rule. Tell Baker which group gets which and it remembers next week.

Can it carry on next week?

Baker remembers your year group, your groups and what you've covered when you tell it. Next week you can text "next rule is -ly" and it picks up from there.

How much does it cost?

Your first resource is completely free: no card, no account, just text. After that the Baker plan is $20 USD a month for unlimited messages, for spelling and everything else. Text PLAN any time to see the details.

How do I cancel?

Text CANCEL and confirm. You keep Baker until the end of the month you've paid for and you won't be charged again. Changed your mind? Text KEEP.

Is it safe to text about my pupils?

Use first names or group labels ("the red group"). Baker won't store surnames, medical or special-needs details, and it says so if you send them. The full detail is in our privacy policy.

Next week's spelling is one text away.
