Their story, their level, pictures on every page.
Short stories about dinosaurs, football, space or whatever your pupils love, written at the right reading level for your class. One short page at a time, each with its own colour picture, and the same characters from the first page to the last.
The right story for this child doesn't exist yet.
The reluctant reader
He won't open a book. The only thing he talks about is dinosaurs, and nothing on the shelf is about dinosaurs at the level he reads.
The topic with no hook
New topic tomorrow and you want a way in. The stories you find are too long, too hard, or about something slightly different.
The book nobody wrote
The class want a story about the farm trip, with them in it. Nobody has written that book, and you haven't got an evening spare to write it.
Baker writes the story you couldn't find: about what they love, at the level they read, illustrated on every page.
Their topic. Their level. Their book.
A story works when a child feels it's theirs. Baker gets the words right and draws every page to match.
It starts with what they love
Dinosaurs, football, ponies, space, the class trip. Tell Baker the thing and the story is built around it, so the first page already feels like theirs.
a football story for a yr 1 who says he hates readingPitched at their reading level
Baker knows your year group and what you've told it about each reading group. Short, simple sentences for early readers, more stretch for the ones who are flying.
Kept the sentences short for the blue group, using the sounds you told me they know. One short page at a time
A few lines on each page under a big colour picture. Small steps feel easy, and the picture helps them read the words.
One or two sentences a page, with a picture of what happens above them. The same characters on every page
Baker draws the first page, then keeps the dinosaur, the goalkeeper or the rocket looking the same right through the book. Want them to draw it themselves instead? Ask for drawing boxes.
can Leo be in it, with a green dinosaur called Rex?Text it the way you'd say it.
No forms and no settings. A few words about who it's for and what they love is plenty.
A story made for this class, not a close match.
A real picture book Baker made from one text.
Not a mock-up. We texted Baker as a test teacher, and this is exactly what came back, pictures and all. Open the PDF and print it.
a picture book story about a puppy who gets lost at the park, for my class
Here you go. Pip chases a butterfly and gets lost, then finds Mia by the big oak tree.
Every page has a picture, so it works as a read-aloud or for your readers to try alone. Want a few questions at the end for after reading?

Questions about stories.
Are there pictures in the stories?
Yes. Every page gets its own colour picture, and the characters look the same from page to page. If you'd rather the children illustrate it themselves, ask for drawing boxes and the pictures are left out.
How does it know their reading level?
Your phone number tells Baker where you teach, and you tell it the year group and anything else that helps: "early readers", "the blue group", "they're flying". It saves those details and uses them next time. Ask for easier or harder whenever you like.
Can it write a story with the sounds my class knows?
Yes. Tell Baker the sounds your class knows and it writes the story with them. It doesn't check every word, so read it through before it goes out, and text it if anything needs changing.
Can the story be about my class?
Yes. Use first names or group labels and Baker will write them in. It won't keep surnames, so stick to first names.
How long is a story?
Short by default: a few lines on each page under a picture. Ask for longer, shorter, more pages or fewer and you get a new version.
How much does it cost?
Your first resource is completely free: no card, no account, just text. After that the Baker plan is $20 USD a month for unlimited messages. Text PLAN any time to see the details.
How do I cancel?
Text CANCEL and confirm. You keep Baker until the end of the month you've paid for and you won't be charged again. Changed your mind? Text KEEP.
Is it safe to text about my pupils?
Use first names or group labels ("the blue group"). Baker won't store surnames, medical or special-needs details, and it says so if you send them. The full detail is in our privacy policy.
Their next favourite book is one text away.
Tell Baker what they love. Get back an illustrated story they can read.
